Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth are the third molars found right at the back of your mouth and are the last teeth to erupt. Although most people have wisdom teeth, it is possible for a person to have some or none (lucky!). It is common for patients to get their wisdom teeth between the ages of 18-25. In most cases, these wisdom teeth become impacted and remain partially underneath the gum resulting in pain and decay, warranting removal.
Common problems associated with wisdom teeth include:
Pain/swelling infection due to difficulty cleaning (‘Pericoronitis’)
Dental decay of adjacent teeth
HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE WISDOM TEETH?
A 6- monthly check up will give your dentist an opportunity to check wisdom teeth by taking a full mouth OPG x-ray. If removal is indicated, our highly experienced dentists will ensure to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. With any operation, there will be a healing period of a few days however everyday pain relief medication such as paracetamol or ibuprofen is usually enough.
At Fine Smiles Dental we often recommend having your wisdom teeth removed on a Friday to allow you the weekend to recover before work or school on Monday.
If you have any concerns regarding your wisdom teeth, please contact us to organise a consultation and assessment.
